In November 2010 MJA led a consultant team which put together a feasibility study for the redevelopment of Fraser’s restaurant in view of it becoming a venue for the 2011 CHOGM conference. In December 2010 the West Australian Government accepted the feasibility study and commissioned MJA to design the ‘State Reception Centre’.
The Project was on an extremely tight timeframe and involved substantial consultation with the Department of Premier, Botanical Gardens and Parks Authority, the Department of Building and Works, the current lessee of Fraser’s and the West Australian Public.
Our scheme provides a substantial function room and commercial kitchen under a tensile fabric roof in a steel, glass and copper pavilion which hovers elegantly over the existing structure. The extensive operable glass walls allow significant CBD and river views to be captured.
