MJA were engaged to reinterpret a derelict site within Subiaco and create a proposal that comprised of 3 alternative housing typologies. The project consists of one laneway based townhouse, a one bedroom terrace apartment and one 3 bedroom dwelling. Each housing type has the ability to cater for the housing needs of a variety of family models and age groups, whilst Dwellings 1 and 2 also have the capacity to be amalgamated at a later stage and cater for larger family groups.
The proposal demonstrates how a site can be redeveloped within an existing streetscape, replicate the existing bulk and character of that streetscape whilst invigorating the area with an increase of density. Its forms, details and finishes are consistent with the street and have been interpreted and composed to add a uniqueness of character that blends with the buildings of the past whilst presenting a contemporary view that speaks of the current.
