In 2012 MJA was engaged to provide schematic design and documentation services for a site just off the Rokeby Road high street of Subiaco.
The site included a single level Art Deco heritage listed building that MJA encouraged to have retained and placed on heritage listing. This existing building influenced the design approach for the new additions which include 2000sqm of commercial offices and 8 residential apartments combined with ground floor retail and rooftop hospitality.
Additional height and plot ratio was granted by the approving authority, and with careful site massing this ensured the existing building was not overwhelmed. Sweeping curves and cantilevers reference the junction of Art Deco and early Modernism, further reinforced by banded face brickwork and individual motifs.
