During 2016 MJA_studio undertook a study of sites in the Perth CBD for new primary and secondary schools.
The proposal for a new 450 pupil primary school, kinder-garden and early learning centre is housed in a 5 storey vacant commercial building on Adelaide Terrace in Perth’s CBD.
The school re-uses existing building infrastructure and facades. A central cut is made into the concrete frame to bisect the building with a full height light-well. The light-well acts as an active circulation route through the building and creates a range of generic and specialist teaching and learning spaces.
‘Kiss and ride’ is facilitated through a private laneway that passes through the building. External spaces are incorporated throughout the building with a large double height covered playground and an external ball court built over a car park.
The proposal re-introduces state education back to the City of Perth.
