The Blake residence occupies a steep rocky slope in a fire prone area, whose primary views are due west.
MJA’s design solution was to create a cellar which could house extensive water tanks for firefighting, act as a retaining wall for the site and create a flat plinth for the single storey ‘H’ shaped plan to rest on.
Extensive operable louvers protect the building from harsh westerly sun while allowing expansive cliff top views throughout the building. Reclaimed antique riveted steel trusses support a soaring ceiling over the main living areas.
