The Amana Sundowner masterplan was part of a series of investigations MJA undertook in 2013 looking at a new generation of retirement development that could meet the desires and aspirations of the baby boomer generation. Unlike the low-rise retirement villages that their parents’ generation have occupied this new model creates higher density apartment based urban villages with all the amenity that goes with it. MJA harnessed its experience in creating modern hospitality spaces by designing communal facilities that the baby boomers and their kids would be happy to spend many hours in.
Dual aspect apartments have balcony spaces on both sides to allow residents to occupy a winter/summer space and to control their interaction with other residents.
The proposal sees a mix of generously sized apartments addressing the Stirling Highway frontage, with substantial views towards the ocean. Beyond the apartments the scale reduced to townhouse style homes moderating the adjacent neighbourhood’s lower density and height.
